On the 1st of January 1997 the Brigade was reorganized creating the General Headquarters Battalion, in which the Transmissions Company and the General Headquarters Company were integrated; the Mixed Engineers Battalion was dissolved and the Sappers Unit was constituted on the basis of the remaining Sappers Company of the Engineers Battalion.
During 2002 the Regiment of Mechanized Infantry «Asturias» n. 31 was equipped with modern Pizarro Infantry fighting vehicles, of Spanish-Austrian design, replacing the old TOAs M-113.
From December 2006 to June 2007, the Brigade is designated as a Base Unit to form the KSPFOR XVII «Toledo» Group in Kosovo (Istok). From December 2008 to April 2009, members of all the BRIAC units form the Multinational Brigade L/H-VII (Libre Hidalgo) to maintain peace in Lebanon.

On the occasion of a new reorganization of the Army, from 1 September 2020 this Brigade becomes part of the Division «Castillejos» and is no longer called Multipurpose Organic Brigade (BOP), a name that is abolished in the new reorganization of the Army.
It was configured as a Large Unit of armored procedure that gave character to the Armored Division. It is a powerful and highly maneuverable unit, capable of rapid, violent, deep and decisive actions. In this line, it was constituted as a fundamental element in deterrence at the strategic level, as well as a decisive element at the operational and tactical level, with a projection capacity adequate to its means.[7] The Goloso, located 18 km from the city of El Goloso, was the first of its kind to be built in the Spanish Army.
El Goloso, located 18 km north of Madrid on the C-607 road, was the place designated for the barracks of the XII Brigade, which was then a set of three unconnected barracks, occupied by the Infantry Regiment «Asturias» No. 31 and the «Agrupaciones de Intendencia» No. 1 and the «Sanidad» No. 1.[7] The «El Goloso» barracks were located on the C-607 road, and the «El Goloso» was the place designated for the barracks of the XII Brigade.

At kilometer 18 of the highway from Madrid to Colmenar, in an area of gentle relief, with splendid views of the Sierra de Guadarrama, the Armored Infantry Brigade «Guadarrama» XII is stationed at its base in ‘El Goloso’.
The Armored Brigade was configured as a large elementary unit, of armored procedure, giving character to the Armored Division. Unique in its kind in our Army, it is constituted as a powerful and maneuvering Unit, capable of carrying out quick, violent, deep and decisive actions.
In this line, it constitutes a fundamental element in the deterrence at strategic level and is a decisive element at operational and tactical level with a projection capacity adequate to its means. It adopts as its motto ‘Fast, Hard, Far’, which contains the purest essence of the Racetrack Units and reflects the characteristics of its maneuver. This motto imprints character to all its interventions.
During the month of February 1966 the Mechanized Regiment ‘Asturias’ receives its new material. It was a battalion of M-113-A1 TOA’s, which replaced the old M-3-A1 Armored Tracked Trucks.

La Brigada Acorazada ha sido durante mucho tiempo una Gran Unidad, primero como parte de la División Acorazada, hoy dentro de las Fuerzas Pesadas. Hasta el día de hoy es única en su género dentro del Ejército y una parte crucial del mismo, caracterizada por su fuerza, su maniobrabilidad y su capacidad de realizar intervenciones rápidas y contundentes.
Las capacidades actuales de la Unidad la convierten en un elemento clave de disuasión a nivel estratégico, así como en un elemento resolutivo a nivel operativo y táctico, en virtud de su capacidad para proyectar sus recursos.
Nuestro lema, «Rápido, duro, lejano», resume la esencia de las unidades de carros de combate y es más cierto que nunca gracias a nuestros equipos más modernos y sofisticados: Los carros de combate Leonard y los vehículos de combate de infantería Pizarro, sistemas de armas en todo el sentido de la palabra.
