This Friday, June 18, we have two big dates to celebrate. Firstly, the International Sushi Day, one of our favorite dishes and of which, fortunately, we have more and more and better options to taste in Madrid. And secondly, the opening of a new restaurant of one of our favorite houses to enjoy the emblematic dish of Japanese cuisine, Sibuya Urban Sushi Bar. And is that just this day the restaurant group Sibuya Group opens the doors of a new location in Ibiza Street 33, which adds to those already owned in Orense Street (Nuevos Ministerios), Santo Tome (Chueca) and the X Madrid Shopping Center in Alcorcón.
Among them, of course, its famous Flamed Rolls, those portentous pieces of sushi that the wait staff flambées with vodka at the sight of the customer and that have become one of the hits of Sibuya Urban Sushi Bar. Although you will also find their also popular urumaki, hot rolls, gunkan (pieces of rice wrapped in raw fish) and the classic cuts of sashimi that can not miss in any good self-respecting Japanese.

Responding to the new architectural trend of reusing cargo containers to develop spaces, the brand creates a business modality designed for shopping centers, airports and other commercial areas.
After signing with Merlin Properties to be present in X-Madrid and aware that shopping centers are an exceptional showcase and a reference when it comes to increasing the chances of success of a business, Grupo Sibuya has created URBAN SUSHI BOX, a solution with which it intends to be present in major shopping centers nationwide.
«They are architectural spaces, in this case, restaurants, made from shipping containers. These cargo containers offer great adaptability to different spaces, as well as the possibility of starting up a business in a few days and at a much more affordable cost,» explains Rubén Fernández Labandera, Founding Partner of Grupo Sibuya.
One of the most attractive aspects of this format is its urban and sustainable nature, as it is currently estimated that there are around 300 million empty containers in ports around the world. The restaurant group intends to use this surplus material, which generally ends up abandoned, to implement its modular restaurants in different parts of the country.

The shopping center will have 39,000 square meters of space. According to the company, 85% of the retail space has already been awarded to brands such as Ongravity, Sublime, Sibuya and Climbat.
The opening of X-Madrid is part of the renovation project of the company’s portfolio of shopping centers, called ‘Flagship’. With a budget of 120 million euros, the refurbishment of the Arturo Soria center in Madrid and the complete refurbishment of Larios Centro in Malaga will be completed in 2019.

As for the menu at Sibuya Amikasa, customers will be able to find all the products for which optimum quality can be guaranteed in delivery and take away, but above all those that travel best. And as the environment where it is enjoyed is different, some combos have been adapted to share with ideas and suggestions from the customers themselves. With this initiative, the Sibuya Group has faced the current situation of the hospitality sector, showing once again its commitment to innovation, to continue strengthening its leadership position in the specialized gastronomy sector.
But the future plans of these two entrepreneurs are ambitious: to be national leaders in Asian restaurants in the next five years. For the moment, the economic figures indicate that they are on the right track. During the 2020 financial year, the turnover reached 19.1 million euros, 31.7% higher than the previous period (14.5 million euros) and they currently employ more than 400 people, including their own staff (Sibuya Group) and those hired by their franchisees. «All Kamado’s are owned by Grupo Sibuya, while in the case of the Sibuya Urban Sushi Bars we have a mixed operating model with half of the premises owned by the company and the other half under franchise or equity participation,» they say.
