This of course is something very subjective, but for me it is Jim Carrey’s best movie by far. It is a movie that I have seen many times and I never get tired of watching it. In it we can see a Jim Carrey, from funny and funny as he is, to super melancholic and dramatic. Not to mention, the argument that even today can be used as a… See more
I never thought this would be his best film before seeing Man on the Moon. After seeing Forget about me I was already thinking that this would be another great film since both were highly valued and despite the fact that seeing his filmography I have always considered Two Dumb and Dumber Guys the best, this one undoubtedly surpasses it, being without a doubt an absolute masterpiece. When a movie makes you have doubts about your own existence, it means that it has something special. On this occasion, the fourth wall is broken, but not for the character to leave the story, but for the viewer to enter into it, since in a way, it concerns both us and the viewers inside the film. It does so… See more

The Truman Show originated from a screenplay by Niccol inspired by an episode of The Twilight Zone titled «Special Service.»[4] Unlike the finished film, it was a science fiction thriller set in New York City. Scott Rudin bought the script to produce it with Paramount Pictures as distributor. The film was to be directed by Brian De Palma, but Weir was finally hired as director; making the film for sixty million dollars, twenty million less than originally estimated. Niccol rewrote the script while the production waited for Carrey to join the project. Most of the filming took place in Seaside, a planned community located in the Florida panhandle.
The film was a box office success, received critical acclaim from film critics and was nominated for Oscar, Golden Globe, BAFTA and Saturn awards. The Truman Show has been studied as a thesis in Christianity, metaphilosophy, simulated reality, surveillance, existentialism and reality television.

One of the most fascinating tasks an actor can have in a movie is to play another actor, especially in scenes in which he has to transmit the illusion that he is giving life to another character…
As much as ‘Fearless’ (‘Fearless’, 1993) had been a commercial failure, it seems that Peter Weir wanted to show the same lack of fear that Jeff Bridges’ character showed in the film and, after taking a break from the movie, he decided to take a little bit of a break….
When we look back and see that the Hollywood Academy awarded ‘Shakespeare in Love’ (‘Shakespeare in Love’, John Madden, 1998) as the best film of 1998, we are a little saddened to think that…
We all like Ed Harris. It’s a kind of pandemic, much more widespread than others, and a hundred thousand times more pleasurable. It consists in swallowing absolutely everything this man, a native of New Jersey born almost a year ago, does…
Good news: Peter Weir has a new project on his hands. It’s about time, because since the spectacular ‘Master & Commander: On the other side of the world’ (2003), the Australian director has not released anything. He tried to take charge of…
