This fishing village, in the council of Soto del Barco, surprises for its beauty and tranquility, so you will find it very easy to relax watching the rising tide from its port or the sunsets in the estuary. Strolling along its maritime façade evokes the past, which was well reflected by the poet Rubén Darío and the painter Joaquín Sorolla.
L’Arena, with a fluvial promenade that delights the most demanding; with a fishing port and a marina; with the impressive beach of Los Quebrantos; with its little sailor and indian houses; with its restaurants of one hundred percent Cantabrian cuisine; with its lively streets and parks… is undoubtedly one of the jewels of the central Asturian coast.
Under the serene influence of the Nalón estuary, in L’Arena you can contemplate sweet sunsets or sunrises, and if you are looking for panoramic views of the entire western coast, you can approach the viewpoint of the Pozaco point, and from there you can see from the island of Deva to Cape Vidio.

In La Arena, of course, you can eat delicious elver in any of its establishments and throughout the season from October to April, reaching its peak in the months of February or March with the celebration of its famous and veteran «Festival of the elver».
Touristically, La Arena, offers the traveler a pleasant tranquility in its streets and squares, serving as a starting point for interesting excursions, both to other parts of the coast and inland. It also has the beach of Los Quebrantos, which is located at the mouth of the Nalón River.
The «Puerta del Mar» has a permanent exhibition with contents related to the environmental characteristics of the Nalón estuary and the ethnographic culture of the council. The importance of the elver and its biological cycle are the focus of much of the exhibition, along with other activities that were one of the economic engines of the place, such as the fish canning factories and the collection of coal in the estuary.
