The Mercadona chain has withdrawn 11 cosmetic products on its own initiative.  The reason is that current regulations prohibit the combination in these products of ingredients that could form nitrosamines (a possibly carcinogenic chemical compound that can also be formed, for example, in tobacco smoke).

Specifically, the consumer organization highlights that the results obtained are «correct» for all the products, since none of the creams analyzed fails and reminds that «it is not necessary to spend a lot to have creams of acceptable quality».
The study stresses that all the products analyzed improve skin hydration, although none stands out above the others. Thus, 11 creams obtain the category of good, while six are in an acceptable category.
OCU analyzed five characteristics of moisturizers. First, their moisturizing efficacy was measured by means of a corneometry test in a specialized laboratory; each product was tested under blind conditions by twenty volunteers.
Measurements were taken before and after application of the products for four weeks. This was followed by a use test, in which each product was tested by thirty female users, with a blind test in which they received the samples in identical white jars, thus objectively assessing the product’s characteristics without being influenced by advertising, the brand or product expectations.
