Greguerías ramón gómez de la serna
The oxford dictionary…
The truth is that the dictionary defines gregueria as an unintelligible or confusing sound, it is clear that it alludes to the language of the Greeks, which is incomprehensible to a multitude of non-Greek ears.
It is best to enjoy the gregueria without trying to define or analyze it as many critics have done. If we do not have time to create our own, we can incorporate Ramón’s into our vocabulary, perhaps they could serve as an ornament on one occasion or another. For example, if we are in a mid-week meeting we can say that «Wednesday is a long day by definition»; when preparing a cocktail we will spontaneously comment that «the ice melts because it cries from the cold». If we happen to philosophize, it will be appropriate to express that «love is born from the sudden desire to make the passing thing eternal»; and if we are given to telling anecdotes, we will remember the man who «wrote habrigo with an hache because it was warmer».

Gómez de la Serna was a prolific writer and journalist who is included in the generation of 1914 also called novecentismo. His literary work was very extensive; he cultivated from the costumbrista essay, the biography (he wrote, among others, those of Azorín and Valle Inclán, or his own: Automoribundia) to the novel and the theater. But his most outstanding work was the greguerías.
They are generally defined as a short text, with great parallelism with the aphorism, since they are a single sentence. They express, with wit, philosophical, humorous or lyrical thoughts. Those of Gómez de la Serna are more poetic and visual, and always have an ironic touch that seeks a contrast between thought and reality.
Automoribundia
The greguerías are short prose compositions, with witty and humorous interpretations or comments on aspects of everyday life, which were created and so named by the writer Ramón Gómez de la Serna, who wrote more than ten thousand greguerías.
Ramón Gómez de la Serna said: «Since 1910 I have dedicated myself to the greguería, which was born on that day of skepticism and weariness when I took all the ingredients from my laboratory, bottle by bottle, and mixed them, and from their precipitation, purification and radical dissolution, the greguería emerged. Since then, the gregueria is for me the flower of all that remains, that which lives, that which resists disbelief the most. The gregueria has been persecuted, denigrated, and I have cried and laughed about it intermingled, because it has given me grief and made me laugh».
