HBO, one of the most important television channels in the United States, has moved to the Basque Country to film several of the scenes that will be part of the seventh season of Game of Thrones. The American network, owned by Time Warner, has chosen the coast of Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa to shoot the scenes that will give life to a new location of the 7 kingdoms, Rocadragon.
During the months of September and October 2016, we have been lucky enough to have Jon Snow (Kit Harington), Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), Lord Davos (Liam Cunningham), Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel) and the rest of the cast of Game of Thrones among us, in the Basque Country. The fans of the series can rest assured, they were treated wonderfully and had a great time, you only have to look at their different profiles on social networks to attest to this.
After a couple of hours of flight, the actors, actresses and other people involved in the filming of Game of Thrones arrived in the Basque Country from Ireland to continue with the filming of the chapters of the seventh season. A shooting, which they alternated with visits to museums and restaurants in Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa, spaces, in which their most ardent fans did not hesitate to capture them with their cell phones and cameras, thus creating an avalanche of photos in the most important social networks.

San juan de gaztelugatxe
The environment of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, in Bizkaia, has since this week a special protection that recognizes the heritage value of the enclave and shields its essential values against possible alterations in the area. The Basque Government has approved the decree declaring it a Special Cultural Asset in the category of Cultural Landscape.
The protection approved this week underlines «the cultural identity of its landscape, the historical-architectural value of the enclave, the landscape itself, and the material and immaterial values it contains». From the intangible point of view, it highlights the existence of rich cultural traditions, especially religious.
The protection also highlights the relationship between architecture and nature: «The buildings relate to the landscape in two ways: by integration, in the case of the bridge and access road, and by contrast, in the case of the artificial silhouettes of the buildings that dominate the profile of the islet. In both cases a harmonious dialogue is established between architecture and nature».
