El Hospital Costa del Sol está situado a 7 km al este de Marbella, con acceso directo desde la autopista A-7, y es el principal hospital de la seguridad social en la Costa del Sol (similar a un hospital del NHS en el Reino Unido).
Con una gran afluencia de turistas durante la temporada de verano, se contrata personal médico adicional cuando la costa está más concurrida. La media de urgencias pasa de 140 a 355 al día durante julio y agosto.
En 2008, el Hospital Costa del Sol inició su ampliación para disponer de 34.000 metros cuadrados adicionales y 150 camas más, lo que hace un total de 550 camas. El hospital cuenta con un amplio servicio de consultas externas (en el lado de la carretera de la costa del edificio) y un servicio de urgencias 24 horas (en el lado de la montaña del edificio).
Los visitantes que no tengan cobertura de la «seguridad social» en España o los residentes a tiempo parcial que no estén cotizando a la seguridad social española podrán ser atendidos en caso de urgencia si llevan la Tarjeta Sanitaria Europea (TSE), expedida por su país de residencia.

The profile of this health policy, like that of the rest of the bodies under the Ministry of Health in Andalusia, is defined by: the Andalusian Health Law (2/98 of June 15, 1998), the III Andalusian Health Plan 2003-2008, the Quality Plan, etc. Through all of them, the Regional Ministry defines the objectives, strategies and main commitments assumed by the Government of Andalusia in the field of health.
